Golden Fleece Vineyard

Justin Miller
Anderson Valley AVA
Boonville, California

5 acres of Pinot Noir from 3 illustrious heritage clones

A family affair, Golden Fleece vineyards is the love child of the Warnelius-Miller clan, 3rd generation farmer winemakers. Justin Miller’s dad, a 6th generation Californian, acquired land in the Alexander Valley in 1963. He was one of the first farmers to grow Cabernet on the hillsides of Alexander Valley. Pioneering and award winning winemakers in what is now the critically acclaimed  Alexander Valley AVA in Sonoma County,  Karin and Justin Warnelius-Miller continue breaking new ground. Turning their attention to the Anderson Valley, and the potential for spectacular Pinot Noir possible in this terroir, the family has embarked on another journey on a new frontier.

Golden Fleece Vineyards, located between Boonville and Philo in the hills above Indian Creek, was acquired and planted in 2015. A cool climate vineyard comprised of Wolfey, Bearwallow, and Casabonne soils, the site offers grand depth and texture allowing layered complexity and depth to the fruit it produces. A southwest facing vineyard with elevations from 850-1000 feet, phenolic texture and weight is prolific in the fruit produced.  The Pacific coast influence is significant to the mouthfeel and quality of the grapes.  Along with the cooling effects of Indian Creek just below the vineyard, the microclimate of Golden Fleece produces brilliant terroir driven wines.

Three illustrious heritage clones of Pinot Noir are grown in this spectacular little vineyard; Calera, 115 and 667 on five hillside acres. Grown with strict methods of organic and regenerative farming, defined by innovative sustainable farming practices, honed by generations of grape growing experience.

Wärnelius-Miller seeks individuality and authenticity to showcase the particular terroir, balanced with the varietal’s signature.  The fruit produced from Golden Fleece Vineyard sings the virtues of its soils producing fruit with precision, alluring tension and grand complexity.

The grapes develop intense flavor over a growing season lengthened by the cooling maritime influence that funnels through the valley. A complex patchwork of clonal selections, yields fruit that provides alluring aromatics, a bouquet of layered fruit, and earthy minerality for complex and alluring wines.

This vineyard has produced multiple 95+ point wines from Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator, and Jeb Dunnuck.
